Jen and Torin

Wednesday, November 19th

Sometimes all you need is a little airplane ride from Mom to put a smile on your face.

Juliet and Quinn

Tuesday, November 18th

Little Quinn was practically a pro during this shoot – can you believe it was his third time here? Luckily, it was his baby sister Juliet’s first time, so he was able to show her the ropes a bit.

Colby, Kerri, and Brock

Tuesday, November 18th

Thankfully, we managed to sneak Mom into this picture, who originally wanted photos of just her two sons, Colby and Brock. We were excited she jumped in, because this photo is truly so sweet.

Cooper, Morgan, Caryn, Steve, and Trey

Tuesday, November 18th

We were so excited to have this family in the studio for pictures, and especially wowed to meet Steve Pringle, one of our favorite radio dj’s from KINK fm! It is always a pleasure to match a face to a voice. A special thank you to the whole crew for making this such a fun session!

Levi & Ahava

Wednesday, November 12th

We last photographed Ahava and her family when she was just a baby. One of our son’s first friends, we were sorry to see this family spread their wings across the country. Ahava returned recently bringing her Mom, Dad and little brother all the way from Ann Arbor, Michigan. It was so great to catch up and see how the family has grown, even if it is was only for a day.

Finley, Emerson, and Campbell

Wednesday, November 12th

These three cuties sure know how to smile! Emerson was the ringleader for his two younger twin brothers, but once the camera started shooting, all three pulled out their grins and showed us just how camera happy they could be.

Luke and Jake

Wednesday, November 12th

If this photo doesn’t put a smile on your face, then we don’t know what would! Sometimes, brothers need to give smooches too. So sweet.

Happy Birthday Elizabeth!

Wednesday, November 12th

As a special birthday present to mom, Elizabeth, this family all got together for an exciting photo session! It was so fun to watch all the kids express their love to their beautiful mother during this special time.

Lean On Me

Wednesday, November 12th

With big families such as this one, sometimes it’s true that we all need somebody to lean on. What fun it was to photograph this group – we were so amazed at how much they all looked alike!

New Mom's Tea at the Studio

Tuesday, November 11th

As a member of MotherSource.org, Kim is always excited to get involved in new projects that support families in our community. Her friend and fellow MotherSource.org member, Wendy Foster of Mamalates hatched a plan to provide a juicy little nest for new Mamas to meet and share resources—the New Mom’s Tea was born. Kim offered up Campbell Salgado Studio as the locale, Kimberly Bepler from ABC Doula Service sponsored the refreshments and Savannah Mayfield from Nurture Life Coaching developed some great ways for new mom’s to connect with one another. Then all of us at MotherSource.org let as many mamas as we could know about the concept.

This Monday, Moms with their beautiful babies came to connect and discuss topics of interest like choosing first foods, surviving on limited sleep and how to find time for self-care. Wendy hosted our event and gave away a Mamalates pilates class series to one of the lucky guests! We sipped Wonder Womb and Nursing Nourishment teas made by Mothersource.org member Beth Yohalem-Ilsley of YI Medicinal Teas.

The next gathering is on December 8th from 10 am – 12 pm and we’ll be discussing strategies for taking care of yourself during the busy holiday season. If you are a new mom who would like to connect with other new moms in a meaningful way over a cup of tea and conversation find out more by checking out our calendar at MotherSource.org. Space is limited and babes in arms are welcome.

Ben, Clara, Quinn, and Christina

Saturday, November 8th

We love capturing sweet family moments like this one – now, if we could only get little baby Clara to smile as brightly as the rest of her family!

Jeff and Lincoln

Saturday, November 8th

Apparently Dad, Jeff, and his 2 year old son, Lincoln, had a little secret pact. After their photo session, they were going to go and get milkshakes, but shhhh … don’t tell Mom!

Henry and Mia

Friday, November 7th

Little cuties, Henry and Mia, practically stole our hearts while in the studio for their third session with us. It is so fun to have the chance to watch all these kids grow up before our eyes – or should we say lens?

Kids, Costumes and a Cause = A Great Time

Thursday, November 6th

The cobwebs have been taken down, the skeletons packed away, and now I have time to reflect on our Halloween Party fundraiser for the Oregon Food Bank. What a whirlwind day it was!

Mamas and papas started arriving at 2 pm with their precious ladybugs, lions and fairies, and by the end of the day, we’d had the pleasure of capturing over 80 children in their creative get-ups. Leah and Kelly took over the studio upstairs to create many of the wonderful images families received to remember Halloween ‘08. To see some of these oh-so-cute images check out this gallery I set up. At 3 pm Rachel, our friend from Spielwerk, came by to help our little guests decorate sugar skulls in celebration of the Day of the Dead.

Although we didn’t get all dotted until close to the end of the event, we all had the best intentions for our group costume…dominoes. (pictured Leah, Allie, Kelly & Kim)

Our costume winner was a wee little olive. His name is Oliver and his grandma made this adorable costume for him. His mom would have made an awfully cute martini, with her little Oliver tucked in her arms.

Beautiful baskets filled with gift certificates and prizes were won by Troy Johnson, Kristin McAuley and Dave Harding. A special thanks to all the businesses who donated to support this event, including SpielWerk, Looking Glass Bookstore, Grand Central Bakery, Pizazz Salon, HandMaids, Vino, Haggis McBaggis, Mocha Momma’s, Please Be Seated, What’s For Dinner, Piece of Cake Bakery, Blue Kangaroo, Tilde, Adobe Rose Cafe, Branches, By the Bunch, Elixia Wellness, Caprial’s Bistro, Staccato Gelato, Noah’s Bagels, QFC, Hollywood Video, Lili Patisserie Café, Fuschia, GR Scrub, Garden State Food Cart, and Jules of Morocco. Our tasty treats were courtesy of Caprial’s Bistro, QFC - Westmoreland, and Noah’s Bagels – Lake Oswego. A big thank you to my personal friends Michelle, Stephanie and Monica for pitching in to help make this event such a big success.

All sales from the photos and raffle tickets went directly the Oregon Food Bank, and I am happy to report that we were able to raise enough funds to supply over 100 families with enough food for 3 – 5 days. In these stressful economic times, it feels so wonderful to be helping Oregon families in need! If you are inspired to help the Oregon Food Bank even more please visit their site to make a donation.

New Holiday Cards!

Wednesday, November 5th

Do you have an image from a past session that would delight your friends and family? Well, the holiday season is right around the corner, so we’re excited to have some new fun holiday card designs for you to choose from. Cards are an affordable way to send a one-of-a-kind gift to those you love. This year send your family portrait in style with these beautiful cards. Order by December 2, 2008 and we’ll have them ready for pickup by December 15th.

Custom cards are also available, so contact Allie or Leah for more information.

Quinae, Quaral, Quari, and Aribania

Tuesday, November 4th

This sweet family was all smiles during their session! We so enjoyed having them back in the studio, and it was especially great to meet the latest addition to their family, little Quaral.

Jeff, Molly, Cicely, Quinn, and Lilly

Tuesday, November 4th

Proud parents, Jeff and Molly, have some of the cutest kids around! They came in again to not only update their family photo, but to also capture life with three girls. It was a joy to have this family back in the studio, and especially wonderful to meet their youngest beauty, Lilly.

Marc, Grace, and Sabrina

Tuesday, November 4th

It’s that time of the year to come in for Holiday photos, and our long-time friends Sabrina and Marc were right on schedule! Their little daughter, Grace, looked so beautiful in her Holiday outfit, and we are sure this is a photo that not only they will cherish, but the rest of their family and friends as well!

Cade, Tiffany, Tate, Taylor, and Jeff

Wednesday, October 29th

Talk about one good-looking family! We had so much fun with this whole group, and they must have been practicing at home, because they were all such pros in the studio!

Nathan, Stephanie, and Steve

Wednesday, October 29th

Soon-to-be big brother Nathan is so excited for his new little sister, that he has already picked out a name for her! Baby Love. Considering how much love this family already has, we think he might be on to something!

Janet, Sabrina, Reif, and Dan

Wednesday, October 29th

Now that’s what we call a bubble!

This session was full of fun things like giant bubbles and matching pumpkin sweaters! We love it when families come in and just be themselves, and this one did just that!

Cobwebs, Costumes, Cameras and Kids

Monday, October 27th

We are looking forward to our first Halloween Party at the studio. The opportunity to raise much needed funds for families in Oregon through the Oregon Food Bank makes it all the more special. We are partnering up with Spielwerk-A Community Toystore to create Sugar Skulls in celebration of the Day of the Dead in addition to photographing kids in their costumes.

Here is a reminder of our schedule of events on Friday the 31st:

Schedule of Events:

2 pm – 3 pm: Baby Boos
Portland’s tiniest ghosts and goblins are invited to strut their Halloween stuff by participating in a special photo session just for costumed babies and toddlers.

3 pm – 5 pm: Sugar Skulls
Friends from SpielWerk Community Toy Store will be on hand to help kids create their own authentic Day of the Dead sugar skulls.

3 pm – 6 pm: Spooky Snapshots
School-aged gremlins and ghouls will get their chance to strike a pose – decked out in their spookiest regalia – and help fight hunger too.

Admission to this fun-filled Halloween-themed event is free, but portraits may be purchased for $10 in digital format, or for $20 as prints, with all proceeds benefiting the Oregon Food Bank. This provides attendees with an opportunity to make a real difference in our community.

In addition, many of our Sellwood business neighbors have stepped up to help the Oregon Food Bank that we’ve created three wonderful gift baskets to raffle off on Halloween to raise additional funds for the Oregon Food Bank, including, Looking Glass Bookstore, Grand Central Bakery, Pizazz Salon, Jules of Morocco, Handmaids, Vino, Haggis McBaggis, Mocha Mama, Spielwerk, Adobe Rose Cafe, Branches, Blue Kangaroo, Staccato Gelato, QFC, GR Scrub, Garden State, By the Bunch, Please be Seated, Tilde and Elexia Wellness.

For those children participating in photos this year we are offering a prize of a a single layer cake from A Piece of Cake for the most creative costume. We can’t wait to see how Portland kids are expressing themselves this year!

PULSE - Artists Creating for Kids

Monday, October 27th

The Children’s Heart Foundation – Oregon Chapter is one of our favorite charitable organizations. Over the years, we’ve had the pleasure of helping the Oregon Chapter put some local faces at their events by photographing children with congenital heart defects. The mission of the Children’s Heart Foundation is to fund the most promising research to diagnose, treat and prevent congenital heart defects. We’d like to encourage you to lend your support too.

This Fall PULSE returns for an evening of music, art and food. What is particularly unique about this fundraising event is that CHF has found 35 artists willing to create and donate the art they make on the day of the event November 8th, 2008. Partygoers can watch the artists making significant pieces of art until they are auctioned off at 9 pm that evening. Francisco and I have gone to this event several times and we just love experiencing the artistic process with others.

Here is a quick link to purchase tickets for the event. Hope to see you there.

Matt, Ella, Lisa, and Wylie

Friday, October 24th

As long time friends of the studio, this foursome was definitely not camera shy! We love to have friends come back year after year to capture life in the now.

Jack, Liam, Caroline, and Britt

Friday, October 24th

This young family was full of laughter while in the studio, and we must say, the giggliest of them all was 8 month old Liam! Aren’t happy babies the best?

Bryson and Peyton

Thursday, October 23rd

Twin babes, Bryson and Peyton, are practically regulars here at Campbell Salgado! From their mama’s belly, to their newborn debut, these two cuties continue to be an absolute delight to photograph. We look forward to many more special moments like this one in the future!

Jayden, Lauren, Curtis and Heather

Thursday, October 23rd

We met this lovely family when they pregnant with Jayden. Over the years we have captured beautiful studio portraits of their growing family. It was fun to see how they used their portraits to decorate their main stairway. I just recently went to their home to capture some candid moments in their family’s life with a Vignettes session. I love how their formal dining room had been transformed into a play room / test kitchen. Clearly the kids do too!

Jane, John and Brooke

Thursday, October 23rd

Some folks think all we photograph are kids. It’s just not true, we also photograph a lot of kids at heart. I first captured this special relationship of aunt Jane and her favorite niece Brooke almost ten years ago. Every few years they come in for an updated portrait. This year Brooke coordinated with her father John to join in the fun when he was up from California. You can see he’s tickled to have such beauties on his arm. These three were off to a decadent evening of wine and theater after their session. Cheers!

How to Hang Photo Arrangements

Tuesday, October 21st

This is an all too common scenario: You’ve laid out your photos and wall hangings into the perfect arrangement on the floor before putting that first nail in the wall. You’ve readjusted and measured your frames and everything looks perfect, right? But then you go to hang your perfect arrangement on the wall and it seems…eh…uneven, or maybe even crooked? Yikes! Well, finally here is a good solution thanks to the folks over at Apartment Therapy. Check out photos of the process.

  1. Lay out some wrapping paper or large enough scrap or contact paper.
  2. Go to town and work up that perfect photo arrangement by laying the frames on the wrapping paper.
  3. Once you have your arrangement figured out, trace the outlines of the frames and make note of where the hanger on the frame actually is.
  4. Tape your wrapping paper to the wall where your photos will hang.
  5. Hang away! Now you have a reference points where you can put your nails.
  6. Once you have your frames hung, you can easily take the paper down. Easy as pie!

Andrea, Davide, Grazia, and Chiara

Wednesday, October 15th

Past clients, Davide and Grazia, came back to the studio for an updated family portrait. We had so much fun experimenting with them all in accomplishing this goal, and had an especially wonderful time playing dress-up with the kids, Andrea and Chiara. Bellissimo!

Mike and Jack

Wednesday, October 15th

Baby Jack is the youngest of three boys, and it was finally his turn to come in for portraits! Proud dad, Mike, was more than willing to be a part of this special moment, as mom Robin stayed behind the camera and looked on her boys adoringly.

Ella, Dustin, and Marisa

Wednesday, October 15th

Dustin came into the studio for high school senior photos, however, we couldn’t resist throwing his adoring little sister, Ella, and his beautiful mom, Marisa, in for a few shots as well! This family was almost too sweet for words.

Halloweenie Pictures

Tuesday, October 14th

This year we are hanging cobwebs and donning our costumes in anticipation of whole bunches of fun. Bring your “little character” by our studio on October 31st for our Halloween party happening between 2 pm – 6 pm.

We’ll be snapping a quick studio photo of well-disguised kiddos with proceeds going to the Oregon Food Bank.

Our favorite local toy store, Spielwerk will be sending a creative friend our way to help kids decorate sugar skulls in celebration of the Day of the Dead too!

2 pm – 3 pm: Baby Boos
Portland’s tiniest ghosts and goblins are invited to strut their Halloween stuff by participating in a special photo session just for costumed babies and toddlers.

3 pm – 5 pm: Sugar Skulls
Representatives from SpielWerk Community toy store will be on hand to help kids create their own authentic sugar skulls.

3 pm – 6 pm: Spooky Snapshots
School-aged gremlins will get their chance to strike a pose—decked out in their spookiest regalia—and help out those in need as well.

Admission is free. Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Halloween portraits may be purchased for $10 in digital format or for $20 as prints. All sales from these photos will benefit Oregon Food Bank. Your $10 digital photo purchase helps collect and distribute enough food to fill an emergency food box. Your $20 print will buy two boxes of food. A typical emergency food box provides enough food for a family of four for three-to five-days.

A collection box will be available for those of you wanting to donate non-perishable food items.

Your loved ones. Close to your Heart.

Tuesday, October 14th

We’ve created a beautiful line of custom silver jewelry, which beg to be covered with your favorite faces. Once you clasp on one of these pendants or charms, you’ll want to leave it on. I get such excited comments from friends and strangers alike that I think our clients will love them too. They are very special, and can even be worn in the shower without water damage!

After putting together a few samples with my son Tamaio’s picture on them, he became worried that the jewelry might become a product we sell. “Not with my picture on them…” he remarked inquisitively. I quickly reassured him that other moms and dads would probably prefer to show their own little people, and that his picture would be reserved for me. But on second thought…he is really cute.

New York, New York

Monday, October 13th

We’ve just returned from an eight day, whirlwind, feast-for-the-eyes trip to New York City. Francisco and I took Tamaio, Paulina and Roberto to the big apple, where we gorged ourselves on museums, galleries, parks and pizza. Being in New York, Tamaio couldn’t help but to do a little modeling for us. This image is taken in the middle of Grand Central Train Terminal:

Boy was it bustling… the poor boy was awfully nervous when police asked me how long I’d been laying on the floor (facing upward, shooting the stars on the ceiling). We rented an apartment close to Central Park, which without our tell-tale backpacks, would’ve allowed us to blend in like locals. We came back renewed and full of inspiration, which we hope is evident in this online gallery.

Lee, Ginny, Ryan, Jenny, and Charles

Thursday, October 9th

Nothing is quite as special as surprising Grandparents with an impromptu photo session! While your loved ones are in town for a visit, we encourage you all to bring ‘em in for a memorable photo session like this one – we are sure that in the end nobody will be disappointed.

Fashion Passion

Thursday, October 9th

My dear friend, Michelle and I had a fun “girl’s day out” at the Oregon Golf Club’s Fall Fashion Show. It was an honor to display our Original Portraits™ and Vignettes™ while chatting with new and familiar faces who shared with us the importance of family.

Dani Juhala the PDX Shopgirl emceed the fashion show as models showcased the fall lines for Lucy, Spoiled Rotten and Via Lago boutiques. I felt so fashion forward getting a sneak peek in what’s hip, right now.

Ariana, Molly, Maggie and Bill

Wednesday, October 8th

This family cruised through a celebratory Vignettes photo session. It was really a treat to watch Ariana and Molly jump on the bed, spin pirouettes and jam on the guitar. This session was in celebration of Ariana, who joined the family last summer. Her adoption has been finalized and she’s “officially” one of the clan and everyone is so delighted they want to remember this time forever.

Meet Kelly ...

Wednesday, October 8th

... our new Campbell Salgado Staff member!

Kelly comes to us from Savannah, Georgia with a degree in photography and some master skills in retouching! She will be primarily working in-house, retouching all of your beautiful faces, but not only that, she will also be coming on as an Associate Photographer. Stay tuned for more information on this, but for now, a big welcome to our new favorite gal, Kelly!

Inspiration for Hanging Photo Arrangements

Wednesday, October 8th

We all know the importance of photographing our families often, but what do you do once you have these great photos? How do you hang them? At the studio, we’re always looking for inspiration on photo designs in the home and recently we’ve come across too many neat ideas to not share. It’s important to think about where your images are going to hang, as well as what sort of styles you are attracted to.

Do you like symmetrical arrangements or more asymmetrical? Some spaces, like mantles and entryways, deserve large focal point images, whereas some places could easily benefit from shelving or layered photos and frames. For our sessions, we usually recommend concentrating on decorating three spaces in your home, otherwise it can get a little overwhelming. The following are some great places to start for ideas:

Domino Magazine
Always a favorite place for inspiration on design in the home.

Design Scouting
They’ve put together a great little list of ideas for hanging art.

Pottery Barn
They even have downloadable wall templates that you can plan with! Great start as a planning tool.

Make sure to check back for more ideas, because we’ll be posting more as we find them!

Clara, Burnadette, and Michael

Tuesday, October 7th

During this shoot, the fan we had pointing on Burnadette was just too much of a temptation for little Clara to not be in the photo! We love the joy that children get from doing something so simple as just running around in circles. Wouldn’t life be a little more sweet if we were all like that?

The Boys

Tuesday, October 7th

High School Senior, Hayden (third from the left), came in for senior photos and decided to also bring along his best buds. We had a hoot photographing them all, and especially loved watching their interactions with each other! All we can say is boys will be boys.

Wyatt and Ruby

Tuesday, October 7th

Here at the studio we see a whole lot of cute outfits, but we are pretty sure this brother and sister duo take the cake for the most fashionable photo shoot. Why is it that hats on babies are so dang cute?

Neal, Tristen, Cecelia, and Megan

Tuesday, October 7th

Can you believe this family hadn’t been into the studio since their daughter, Megan, was just teeny tiny? Well, we hope that this great family shot will make up for that!

Callahan, Bella, and Olivia

Tuesday, October 7th

It’s Fall here at Campbell Salgado, and who better to exemplify this than these adorable children? We had so much fun with this trio in and out of the studio during their session!

Piper and Sydney

Tuesday, September 30th

The wonderful thing about sisters is that you can laugh and laugh together, and never really know exactly what you are laughing at! This was a special connection that we instantly recognized in these sisters, Piper and Sydney.

Lexi, Steve, Gabbi, Ann, and Katie

Tuesday, September 30th

These three little beauties were quite adorable to photograph. Little ones, Katie and Gabbi took a little while to warm up to the camera, but once they saw their big sis, Lexi, smiling like a pro, they soon caught on.

Mariano, Paola, and Luca

Tuesday, September 30th

Skin is in.

This intimate family session was one of the most beautiful one’s we have ever had. There is something so sweet about a family showing this much love – and skin! It is truly stunning.

Ezra, Stanley, and Elijah

Tuesday, September 30th

While on a visit across country, this unsuspecting Grandfather was brought into the studio to have some fun with his favorite Oregonian grandson’s, Ezra and Elijah.

Iris and Elliot

Friday, September 26th

With Fall at our fingertips, it is nice to still capture some beautiful post-summer shots like this. Even though the weather is turning, this brother-sister duo happily relaxed in the late September sun.

Miles, Stephen, and Cole

Thursday, September 25th

Brother’s Miles and Cole needed an extra little boost from their Dad, Stephen, during this photo session! We love it when adults have just as much fun (if not more!) than the kids.

Will and Heather

Wednesday, September 24th

Upon leaving the kids with Grandma, these two sweethearts came to the studio to celebrate 17 years of love and eskimo kisses!

Baby Ben

Wednesday, September 24th

We often strive to get babies to look as calm and cool as this, and for baby Ben – just one month old – it was a piece of cake! His curiosity with the lights and the studio helped to lure him into a peaceful state.

Austin and Berkely

Friday, September 19th

Too cool for school brothers, Austin and Berkely, were amazing to photograph! Those acting classes sure paid off during this session – it seemed the kids had more ideas than we did at times!

Ari and Kai

Friday, September 19th

“It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky, for fun it’s a wonderful toy. It’s Slinky, it’s Slinky, it’s fun for a girl and a boy!”

With a trademark jingle like that, it’s no wonder Ari and Kai couldn’t get enough of these slinky’s. We all had fun playing with them during this photo session!

Isadora and Kenna

Tuesday, September 16th

Kenna, a new friend of the studio’s, recently came in to show off her beautiful daughter, Isadora. Together, they were a delight to photograph, and clients we would love to have back again.

Happy Birthday to all!

Tuesday, September 16th

This session was full of celebration all around! Not only did little Jacob turn 1 year old (and cry while doing it), it was also Grandma’s birthday, and recently Mom and Dad’s too! If that isn’t a reason to celebrate, then I don’t know what is.

Charlotte and Carol

Tuesday, September 16th

Our studio assistant, Allie, is usually seen behind the scenes in your photo sessions, helping to make people laugh. During this session, you can say she was a little more hands-on – depicted here is her adorable niece, Charlotte, and her beautiful mom, Carol. Who knew this would be the response when Allie asked Charlotte to give her grandma a kiss? So sweet.

Baby Oliver

Friday, September 12th

A regular at mommy-and-me yoga, Oliver is shown here practicing his yoga moves for us!

James

Thursday, September 11th

I think it is safe to say that this little guy was the most smiley toddler that we have ever photographed! James was absolutely delightful to work with, and so fun to have back in the studio.

Bethany

Wednesday, September 10th

This radiant mother is glowing from both the inside and out. She has a precious baby on the way, and an adorable two year old, Jackson, who is getting ready to be a big brother!

Chloe, Tyler, and Jaden

Wednesday, September 10th

Talk about some sweet, sweet kids. These three little ones were so much fun to have in the studio – and boy did they make us laugh!

Don, Heidi and Katie

Thursday, September 4th

This little girl is loved so much, that even her grandpa Don didn’t want to miss this chance to be with her during her first photo shoot! Now that is real love.

Trevyn and Sonoma

Tuesday, September 2nd

Little Sonoma is 9 months old and just learning how to stand on her own. It’s a good thing she has her big brother, Trevyn, there to catch her if she falls!

Holly, Brad, Terree, and Lucas

Tuesday, September 2nd

And Beamer makes five.

This family not only wanted to capture one last family shot before their daughter goes off to college next year, but they also wanted to get a great photograph with the newest member of their family – 6 month old Boxer, Beamer.

Emily, Jeanette, Lauren, and Adam

Tuesday, September 2nd

Seven year old twins, Lauren and Emily, are at such a fun age to photograph! They are both very distinct in their personalities, and yet still very much twin sisters. Together with their mom and dad, they make up one close-knit group.

Gabriel and Hudson

Tuesday, September 2nd

Two cool kids.

These two cuties hale from windy Hood River, so what better way to photograph them then to blow the fan directly on them and go for that “cool wind-blown look”.

Ezra and Elijah

Tuesday, September 2nd

There is always a first time for everything, and this was definitely the first time we have had a family bring their chickens into the studio to be photographed! Who knew that these chicks would make such a dynamic photo!

Calvin, Robert, Kalani, and Theresa

Tuesday, September 2nd

This photo session was full of laughter, cuddles and big hugs! We love it when families can come into the studio and just be themselves – it makes our job so simple and fun.

Laura and her babes

Tuesday, September 2nd

Our long-time client Laura returned to our studio again to capture her beautiful babes in this special moment in time. Big sister Jordan sure has a big job of helping to take care of her twin 9 month old little brothers!

Mary, Sarah, Margaret, and John

Tuesday, August 26th

It’s so nice to have grown families in the studio that truly get along! Sister’s Mary and Sarah had so much fun together during this photo shoot, that it is clear their relationship is something special.

Allie and Mike

Monday, August 25th

This creative couple came in just in the nick of time, on their due date. Bringing a reminder from their Blessingway, Mike lovingly placed the birth necklace over Allie’s tummy and the sacred home of their soon-to-be-born babe.

Cirque du Brown

Saturday, August 23rd

What a fun time I had photographing the Brown family circus in their colorful home. In this Vignettes session you can see Chloe pretty much stole the show throughout my time there. She shines as a natural performer with a delightful supporting cast that includes Mom, Dad and baby sister Ginger!

A Gallery without Walls

Wednesday, August 20th

Francisco is quite a Renaissance man. Did you know he is an established sculptor? He spends time in the evenings creating in his workshop, and has been very active lately.

The Arts Council of Lake Oswego has selected Francisco’s sculpture, Jump, for the 2009 Gallery without Walls. This piece will be installed for two years on 1st Street & Evergreen in downtown Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Tamaio was the elder Salgado’s lil’ helper on installation day, though the 100° heat warranted a little rest during the operation. ☺

Photo Designs in the 2008 Street of Dreams

Wednesday, August 20th

In August and September, we head to Mt. Scott for our second year at the Portland, Oregon Street of Dreams. Strolling through these homes is a great summertime tradition, and the views are as spectacular this year as in years past.

We’ve found this show to be a tremendous opportunity for showcasing portrait arrangements, and you’ll find some of our recent designs at the Cherith Brook home. We’ve placed photos of builder Sergey Gostev and his family near the front entry and throughout, along with a few of our other clients.

We’re fond of a few new artsy ideas which you can see along the staircase and in the young girl’s interior theme. Go see the Street of Dreams this year. We’re excited to hear feedback on how we’ve used segmented imagery to creatively approach challenging wall spaces in the home.

Cameron, Michelle, Cy, and Greg

Tuesday, August 19th

We sure are on a role with celebrating families this month! This amazing family was not only head-over-heels in love with each other, but also heads and heads above our average clientele. With a mom reaching 6’3’’ and a dad at 6’8’’, we are sure to say that this is by and large the tallest family to ever come to our studio!

Connie and Family

Tuesday, August 19th

This group sure knew what it meant to celebrate families. With a son going off to graduate school, and a new addition to the family, it was important for all to get together and commemorate life both here and now with this beautiful family portrait.

Chris and Melissa's beautiful babes

Friday, August 15th

This proud papa never had family pictures growing up, but we think this photo makes up for that. What a great way to capture all the love this family has for each other.

Tina, Mark, Felix, Saskia and Hanna

Friday, August 15th

We were so privileged to have this wonderful family in the studio with us! Never have we had so much fun (or been so hot!) at a photo session. Thank you to all.

Adelaide and Sandra

Wednesday, August 13th

If this isn’t the look of a proud mama, then I don’t know what is! Sandra is absolutely radiant with love for not only her adorable 3 year old, Adelaide, but also for her new baby which should be arriving any day now!

Alia, Brigette and Scott

Wednesday, August 13th

Who can resist a face like this? All we can say is little Alia sure has the smile to melt all our hearts, and soon she will do the same to her new little sibling!

Esther and Family

Wednesday, August 13th

Realizing that they were due for a new family photo, this beautiful family gathered from up and down the west coast in order to make this moment happen.

Little Slugger

Wednesday, August 13th

When your favorite sport is baseball, why wouldn’t you bring your bat and ball with you to a photo shoot? Little Will sure hit a good one on this shot, and luckily, Francisco was quick enough to capture it and move out of the way at the same time!

Street of Dreams 2008

Friday, August 8th

We are thrilled to be providing portrait photography again in the 2008 Street of Dreams, Cherith Brook home.

This year we’ve created some new decorating ideas for displaying portrait photography in your home. It was our privilege to photograph the builder, Sergey Gostev and his family. They have worked together to construct this amazing 11,000+ square foot home.

Francisco and I always love meeting families that share a dream.

Passport to Sellwood - Westmoreland

Friday, August 8th

Each August Sellwood – Westmoreland businesses open their doors for a party.

Between 10 am & 5 pm, grab a passport (to be found at any of the participating shops) and visit some of the truly unique businesses that call our neighborhood home. Collect enough stamps in your passport, and you’ll be eligible for some great prizes!

I’ll be giving tours of the studio and handing out special $25 gift certificates to families who schedule their complimentary planning sessions during their visit on Passport Day.

15 Years of Love and Kindness

Friday, August 8th

How do you acknowledge sharing a life with someone for 15 years?

Francisco and I were married on the Greek island of Kimolos 15 years ago. Last Saturday, he managed to hide 15 presents throughout our house for me to discover on our anniversary! From a bottle of rum & coke (our wedding drink) to a giggling, ducky key chain (Tamaio’s pick), each gift had a personal meaning. It was a sweet gesture and put a smile on my face throughout the day while he was at the studio photographing families.

Over dinner, I broke out our journal from our European trip and read him bits of entries. It’s amazing how the memories come flooding back with the trigger of a few words. Since we had written our vows in the same journal, we read them to each other over dinner. Aahhhh, sound romantic? It really was very romantic!

This is our engagement photo from 15 years ago. Francisco proposed four months after we had our first date: practically love at first sight!

Cate and Amelia

Friday, August 8th

Amelia has been one of the happiest babies we have had in the studio lately! She was full of smiles and giggles, and lots of cuddles with her number one fan in life, her mama. There is something so special about the bond between a mother and daughter.

Lucas and Annika

Thursday, August 7th

We have been photographing these two kids since they were in their mama’s belly, and now little Lucas and Annika seem to be all grown up! It is so fun to be a part of watching so many kids grow and change throughout the years – it always gives us something to look forward to again and again.

Ginny and her even bigger family!

Tuesday, August 5th

Grandma Ginny came in with her 13 grandchildren for this one-of-a-kind family portrait. With families coming to the studio from all over, it truly felt like a giant family reunion here at Campbell Salgado.

Judy's great, big family!

Tuesday, August 5th

Having 12 people in the studio for a photo shoot can often be a challenge, however, for this family it was a breeze! They were all so excited to be around each other that it made our job behind the camera as simple as pie.

Sophie

Tuesday, August 5th

Little Sophie is truly one of the most beautiful babies we have had in our studio. We look forward to watching this little girl grow and change throughout the years.

Sabrina and her Family

Tuesday, August 5th

Our dear friend Sabrina has come to us several times to capture either her adorable daughter, Grace, who’s growing up so quickly, or to gather her whole family together for an impromptu jumping session! Here, she combined the two – minus the jumping – and came out with a beautiful photograph. All in all, thanks for the wonderful times!

Seamus, Jennifer and Peter

Tuesday, August 5th

Tattoo Love.

After meeting through their body art, this beautiful couple fell in love and now express themselves in a whole other way – through their adorable son, Seamus.

Super model? No, Super Dentist!

Saturday, August 2nd

Some of you have been thumbing through Portland Monthly in August and noticed Francisco and I shining off the page in an ad for Macadam Dental. I mean how could you have missed it? Our favorite family dentist, Dr. Kevin Morich, wanted to use real patient pics in his advertising. Since we are really, truly big fans of his gentle dentistry, we obliged.

Mattias, Rodrigo & Camille

Saturday, August 2nd

Ten years ago today these two sweethearts met when Camille was learning to fly. Rodrigo knew a great student when he saw one and they’ve been together ever since. Everyone is over the moon about the new babe that will be joining sweet six year old brother, Mattias.

100 Year Party Footnotes

Thursday, July 31st

What a treat to spend a gorgeous summer evening among friends sipping cocktails, listening to nostalgic music and admiring each other’s vintage costumes! Dressed to the nines, we commemorated all 100 years of our studio home’s memories.

The Duo Royale, our favorite house band put on a great show. The lovely Anne-Louise Sterry entertained the crowd with stories, from the hilarious Italian Aunt Lena to a lesson in how to speak a new language, New Jersey. Dale Matthews from Matthew’s Memory Lane Motors graciously lent us his private ‘48 convertible Buick for the evening. Posing in our old fashioned attire with such a unique prop brought a smile to a lot of faces.

The lucky winner of our Vignettes raffle was the Davis family. Mom Heather, said it made her day when we called with the news!

Those in attendance received a sneak peek of our newest line of products designed to document treasured memories at home: “Vignettes”.

Francisco and I cherish moments like these when we can slow down our busy lives and remember the importance of connecting with friends and having fun.

We look forward to many more years of celebrating in our studio home!

Hugs all around!

Wednesday, July 30th

This family sure likes to hug! On the top we have the lovely parents, Devin and Jonathon, and on the bottom we have the adorable children, Mac and Ames. Let’s just say that this session was definitely not lacking in the love department. What a sweet, sweet family.

Michelle, Matt and Elliott

Tuesday, July 29th

Sometimes here at the studio it feels like deja vu. One day we have pregnant, soon-to-be mama’s, and then the next they are back with their precious teeny tiny babies. Michelle and Matt brought their new little one in just 9 days after he was born, and it was a good thing they had already gotten their pregnancy photos taken because Elliott arrived a little earlier than planned!

Olivia and Eli

Tuesday, July 29th

What a perfect photo to end our July special of the month in which we celebrated siblings! Olivia and Eli have an adorable relationship, and this image truly captures it all.

Rand, Deana and Theo

Tuesday, July 29th

Moments like this don’t need too many words. All we can say is that our friend Deana sure has two sweetie-pie boys!

Summertimes favorites cocktails

Monday, July 28th

When I’m not behind the camera or in front of the computer, I love to indulge in one of my tastier pastimes: infusing liquers. Last year I gathered ten girlfriends to make flavorful batches of vodka, rum and tequila. Everyone brought an herb for infusion, a fruit or a vegetable. Ranging from watermelon vodka to strawberry tequila, we were able to divide all the flavors into small bottles so everyone got a taste.

For our 100 year studio party I made up a big batch of lavender and basil/sage vodka that we mixed in with ice cold lemonade. It was a big hit! Curiously, the lavender cocktails were an even bigger hit with the men.

To make these tasty drinks at home, follow these simple recipes:

Basil~Sage Liqueur
Decant the spirits (750-ml) into a clean 2 quart glass container with a tight fitting lid. Add 1 cup lightly packed basil and sage leaves. Allow the spirits to infuse away from direct sunlight and intense heat for 24 hours.

When you’re satisified with the intensity of the flavor, strain the liqueur through a coffee filter. Discard the basil and sage.
Age the liqueur for 1 week away from light and heat.

Lavender Liqueur
insert 3 tbsp lavender buds into the 750-ml bottle. Let this liqueur age for one month.

Mix with homemade lemonade for a refreshing summertime cocktail. Cheers!

PS these recipes come from my favorite recipe book Infused: 100+ Recipes for Infused Liqueurs and Cocktails

Lili and Isabella

Thursday, July 24th

These two little girls came all the way from Shanghai, China to play dress-up at our studio!! By the look of this photo, I think it was well worth the trip! A special thank you to these long-term clients and friends – it is always nice to see you.

Bobby and Wally

Thursday, July 24th

Thirty-two years of marriage and still going strong! It is so fun to have couples like Bobby and Wally in the studio. They seem more in love than ever!

Reece and his Mama's belly

Wednesday, July 23rd

Little Reece is so excited for his baby sister to arrive that he has already taken big brother classes in order for preparation! Here he is practicing his listening skills … I wonder what she is telling him?

Nathan, Lisa, Mark, and Kendall

Saturday, July 19th

I wonder why mom and dad look so surprised in this photo? Isn’t it completely normal for teenagers to be kissing their parents on the cheek? Well, either way, we couldn’t resist posting this image so all can see the rarity of this beautiful moment.

Ella, Mark, Bryna, and Anna

Friday, July 18th

Aren’t little girls the sweetest? Just after this wonderful family photo, Ella and Anna got into their tutu’s and fairy wings for some real girly-girl fun!

Phoebe

Friday, July 18th

After spotting a little ladybug crawling around in her flower, Phoebe was in total awe. She has been coming to our studio since she was teeny tiny herself, but this might be one of the sweetest photos yet!

John, Debra, Tavia, Rafael, and Aqeel

Friday, July 18th

This family was such a hoot! When the bubbles came out during their photo session, the clothes came off! Well, at least for the kids. After all the bubbles had popped, mom and dad scooped up all the little ones for this priceless family photo.

Ingrid and Richard

Wednesday, July 16th

Even after 30 years of marriage, Ingrid and Richard and still very much in love. Thank you for a beautiful session – one we will never forget.

Rosie, Josmary, George and Ruby

Wednesday, July 16th

Visiting all the way from Venezuela, these family friends decided to stop by the studio and watch firsthand how Francisco does his magic.

Alanna and Trevor

Wednesday, July 16th

Believe it or not, this brother and sister were initially not too excited to be giving each other hugs! Funny how you would never know by the look of this photo. Eventually, I am sure they will cherish this photo just as much as we all cherish it now.

Morgan, Erin, Grace, and Aaron

Wednesday, July 16th

This mom and dad not only share the same name, but apparently they also share the same wonderful sense of humor! We love it when families come into the studio and just act the same as when they are at home – it feels like we are at home ourselves.

Duo Royale

Wednesday, July 16th

Or should we say trio?

For all those who can make it to the Studio Anniversary Party on Saturday, July 19th, here is a sneak peek of the band that will be performing that evening. We don’t have a sample of their music up, so we are hoping this photo will bring music to your ears instead. Did it work?

Hearts Celebrated: LionHeart

Tuesday, July 15th

My son Tamaio and I joined the collective goodness of many Portland families as they came together to raise funds for the Children’s Heart Foundation) at LionHeart In The Park.

I brought a camera to take photos of the event for the hardworking folks of CHF.

Tamaio eagerly pointed out each of our portraits around the event. Over a dozen large portraits from our studio were featured throughout the park. It’s such a good feeling to have your child excited about what you do! Familiar faces were everywhere, from the children we’d photographed to the committee members, like Aimee and Joe Mooney, who organized the event.

So many generous businesses and community members make this event possible each year. This year, there were additional informative learning booths. For example, Tamaio and I were able to see the tools and procedures doctors use to close a hole in the heart.

Side by side, festival goers created a community piece of art. The happy sound of marimbas rang through the park as kids skipped from bouncy houses to face painting to learning circus stunts. Children with congenital heart defects were easy to spot in their bright yellow t-shirts. The little girl above had just spotted her papa holding her in the photo display. It was a wonderful feeling to know that this fundraiser will make a difference in their lives.

This is always such a special event and an honor to be involved. If you missed it this year, mark your calendar for the 2nd Saturday in July 2009!

100 Year Studio Party!

Tuesday, July 15th

Four years ago, we moved Campbell Salgado Studio to a gem of a house in the Sellwood neighborhood. Many families have called this home since being crafted in 1908, and we are the first official business to hold claim upon 8107 SE 16th ave.

So we are throwing a big bash to mark the 100 year anniversary of its birth. Join us this Saturday, July 19th from 7-9PM for a party in our garden in celebration of our success and those who’ve come before us.

Music from the Duo Royale, lavender cocktails, and other treats will be served, and vintage attire is encouraged. This is an adults only event (we promise to make it up to the kids at Halloween).

Leah and I were both successful in finding great vintage party dresses at Bombshell Vintage on East Burnside.

We hope you’ll come celebrate with us!

Scarlette

Tuesday, July 15th

Here at the studio, one of our favorite things about having precious newborns in for photos is that we love to see the amazing contrast between their tiny bodies and their parents. We think this shot of baby Scarlette and her dad does a pretty good job of doing just that.

Corinna

Tuesday, July 15th

If there ever was a perfect dress for twirling, then this would be it!

It was so much fun watching Corinna spin around in this photo shoot, that is until we all got too dizzy!

Vignettes: A Concept is Born

Monday, July 14th

As a visual person, I’m always looking back on my life through old snapshots, portraits and pictures I store in my mind. There are so many vacations, birthday parties, and visits with relatives.

Each day there are moments I love to savor later: cuddling in bed with my family, reading stories to my son, baking with my daughter, sharing a glass of wine and intimate conversation with my husband. These moments make up who we are and reflect the values and love we invest in our family each day.

A few years back our good friend and photojournalist, Jorge Vinueza, took real photographs of Francisco, Tamaio and I at home. These photographs have become some of our most cherished images.

I thought anyone deserves a record of personal moments like those that Jorge captured. And I know that others feel the same, that there is a need to document their own treasured moments.

I’ve had the pleasure of playing the behind-the-scenes visionary over the years: I invent new products by thinking of imagery I imagine for my own family, and sharing ideas with friends and clients. I keep revisiting this fragment: a day in the life of…

I want to capture moments that often go unnoticed and weave a pictorial of everyday family life. These thoughts are unimpressive scraps of fabric alone, but become a gorgeous quilt by an artist’s hands. And so, from this vision, Vignettes, visual tales of home and family, is born.

This product line is so unique that it has its own distinctive look, centering around beautiful, customized coffee table books. Books are timeless, and portable. Imagine handing down this visual documentary of their lives at home, it’s your history as a family. Wall portraits are full-framed, without mats. And the images themselves could not be unique if we didn’t change our approach. With Vignettes, we exclusively shoot on location, and in your home.

Whether you love tradition and storytelling, or just want to preserve those intimate moments at home with your family, Vignettes is an experience in portraiture that you can’t miss. I have wanted something like this for my own family for so long, that I know you’ll look forward to it too.

LionHeart in the Park

Friday, July 11th

Let your toddler crawl around Pitter-Patter Land, and enjoy a show by the Hoop Shine Girls. Check out your favorite bugs with Oregon Zoo Bugs, or have some fun with balloon artist Joe Mishkin.

There is a rock wall for some climbing fun, and group art projects. All in the spirit of preventing and treating congenital heart defects.

Isabel, Vince and Laurie

Friday, July 11th

Three year old, Isabel, is at such a fun age for photographs. She still loves to cuddle up with her parents, but is also ready to explore a few things on her own. All three were wonderful to photograph, and very much in love with each other – a great combination.

Cristine and Shelly

Friday, July 11th

This sassy mother-daughter duo had so much fun while with us in the studio. Even though they live on opposite sides of the country, Cristine and Shelly make sure to take time out during the year to be together for fun moments like this. What a special relationship they have!

Judy and Family

Tuesday, July 8th

Judy and her beautiful family came all the way to us from Bend, Oregon! Clockwise from the top left we have Jacob, Taylor, Noah, Ava, Judy, and Wells. What a wonderful family to have in the studio – never a dull moment!

Charles

Tuesday, July 8th

Little Charles had lots to smile about in this photo session … not only was his mom making silly faces at him, but his grandmother was at the shoot as well, visiting all the way from South Carolina!

Campbell and Riley

Tuesday, July 8th

Sister’s Campbell and Riley looked so sweet in their matching tutu’s that we just had to put this photo up on the blog! Riley is already turning into an accomplished ballerina, and Campbell is following right in step with her big sister. Aren’t little girls the sweetest?

Baby's First Milestones

Saturday, July 5th

Having photographed families for over thirteen years, Francisco and I have developed some thoughts about documenting the many milestones of families. The first year of a baby’s life is really phenomenal when you document all the changes a child goes through during that first twelve months. Our recommendations for documenting this journey…

Pregnancy – Capture the excitement of your expectancy, the beauty of your body and the love for your unborn child with pregnancy photos. Marking this important beginning in your family will create a visible memory for your child.

Newborn – The first month of life is unmatched in beauty and innocence. Your baby’s eyes will never be filled with more wonder. Her tiny hand wrapped around Daddy’s finger, his wrinkly foot between older siblings’, and a tender snuggle with the whole family will create moments you will want to savor over and over!

Two to four months – Your child begins to fill out and everyone is guessing: does he look like mom or dad? You will be so proud as your baby is now able to support her head while lying on her tummy or looking up from your shoulder. And the smiles have begun!

Five to seven months – With a gummy smile and an easy laugh, this is not a time to miss! Your baby may begin sitting up or scooting onto hands and knees. This is really the time when your child will look like the quintessential baby.

Eight to eleven months – He is on the move! This session will capture movement and curiosity. Your baby will be interested in exploring objects and playing games like peek-a-boo.

One year – First birthday! Be sure to preserve this time of celebration and accomplishment with a special photo. Pulling up on furniture and tentative first steps are some of the hallmarks of this age. There will never be another birthday quite like this one.

At Campbell Salgado, we offer The Baby’s Club Membership, designed for clients committed to documenting the remarkable first year of their child’s life, from before birth to year one. In some cases, discounts through the Baby’s Club program can approach 75% off of our regular session pricing. Ask Leah or Allie how you can take advantage of this opportunity.

Michelle and Matt

Thursday, July 3rd

Expecting couple, Michelle and Matt, were so much fun to have in the studio. We swapped stories of traveling, and future plans, and even managed to capture this beautiful moment. Overall, I’d say this session was an absolute success!

Cecily, Dannika, Nano, Hau and Andre

Thursday, July 3rd

This beautiful new family came in to not only photograph their 7 week old twins, Dannika and Andre, but to also capture a great family shot with beloved dog, Nano.

Kimberly

Tuesday, July 1st

This beautiful (soon-to-be) mama was absolutely glowing during her session. We weren’t sure if it was because her husband, Brian, was whispering silly things to her, or the fact that she will soon be meeting her precious baby boy. Who knows, maybe a little of both!

Robyn, Jens and Jason

Tuesday, July 1st

This family came in for a family portrait, and left with a whole lot more! We had a blast during this photo session, all while being entertained by little Jens.

Max and Joshua

Friday, June 27th

If you have been following our blog, you know how much we love to have twins in the studio for photo sessions. Here, Max and Josh were no different. Maybe it was because their big sister, Emily, was there to encourage them on.

Ryan and Dereck

Friday, June 27th

It’s not too often we catch a moment as sweet as this! Brother’s, Ryan and Dereck, were so wonderful together that we are sure they will be life-long buddies.

Mieke

Friday, June 27th

Don’t you ever wonder where kids get things from? This precious little girl kept trying to get all of our attentions on her by dramatically dipping her head to the side. Well, I guess she has learned well, because sure enough – every time she did it, we all oowed and awwed.

Heidi

Friday, June 27th

Expecting a little girl in less than a month, Heidi was so precious to photograph. She brought several scarves and wraps that belonged to her mother. It was a very moving session.

Claire

Thursday, June 26th

Claire was yet another beautiful girl that we are photographing for Lion Heart. She brought in her special tutu and showed off her ribbon skills. We always enjoy sessions like this one where the kids just play and don’t want to leave.

Peter

Thursday, June 26th

Peter came to us as part of the Children’s Heart Foundation fundraiser, Lion Heart. Every year we photograph some of the most amazing kids, and Peter was no different. Here at Campbell Salgado Studio we love to be involved in the community, and this has been an event over the years that has truly been a delight to be a part of.

Pat, Sophie and Amy

Thursday, June 26th

New parents, Pat and Amy, definitely have that new parent glow. Little Sophie is not only a beautiful baby, but is also extremely easygoing. These are the kind of photo sessions that make our job here at the studio a breeze.

Delainy

Wednesday, June 25th

Has there ever been a sweeter face than this? Little Delainy wowed us all with her adorable smiles, and was such a joy to have back in the studio again. We always look forward to her and her families visits.

Beau and Jacob Dean

Tuesday, June 24th

Surfer Beau has introduced his little boy to the joy of surfing, even if he only gets to look at dad’s board now. Mom was willing to throw on a suit and join the action but we couldn’t resist this cute pairing.

Oliver and Elizabeth

Tuesday, June 24th

What a treat to see Oliver again. His mama, Elizabeth brought him in when he was just newly born and now he’s six months old. It is always so much fun when a mom wants a special session with her child.

Wendy and Jeff

Tuesday, June 24th

We were in stitches with Wendy and Jeff and their adorable furry friends or should we say “children”, Zoe and Dax. Convincing their pups to pose was half the fun! Having had these two for over a decade, Wendy and Jeff wanted a great family photo and we think they got it.

Roger, Preston and Heather

Friday, June 20th

Proud parents, Roger and Heather, are expecting another little one any day now, but we don’t think anyone is more excited than soon-to-be big brother Preston!

Logan

Friday, June 20th

Only four months old, and this little one already shows so much expression in his adorable, little face. Logan was a pro for this photo session, and kept amazing us all with his cool and calm demeanor.

Tips for Shooting Summer Photos

Thursday, June 19th

From time to time, folks will arrive at our studio disappointed that the sun isn’t shining for their outdoor photos. Meanwhile, I’m breathing a sigh of relief because the intense light of sunshine is difficult to work with as it blows out the highlights and creates very intense shadows.

The grey skies we commonly have in Oregon are really ideal for shooting photos. If you are taking your kids outside for some summer pictures choose a day that is overcast. Switch your camera flash off and shoot with the natural light and you will be so pleased with the results.

If you really need to take a photo on a bright day, place your subjects under the shadow of a tree. Compose and crop your image so that bright sunlight is eliminated. This will help your camera’s brain make a better exposure for skin tones.

At the studio we always set our camera on manual and read the light meter for how the light is reflecting off the person’s skin. We get the very best exposures for the subject, regardless of what is happening around them. Hand held meters work best for this.

In our garden space at the studio, we are fortunate to be able to photograph throughout the summertime by building ceiling canopies of billowy, white nylon. This blocks the harsh rays and makes it more comfortable for everyone, including the photographer!

So, get out and enjoy the rare summer sunshine in Portland, but just remember to think twice before snapping a photo in direct sunlight!

-Kim

Greta and Ella

Wednesday, June 18th

Beautiful sisters, Greta and Ella, not only showed off their pretty dresses, but also dazzled us with their immense love for each other. The bond between these two girls is so special that we are sure it will last a lifetime. Thank you for an absolutely stunning session.

Andy and Paul

Wednesday, June 18th

These two brother’s sure knew how to make each other laugh! We had a wonderful time photographing this family, and at any given point, we weren’t sure what was going to happen! It’s those unexpected moments that truly make for wonderful photographs.

Friday, June 13th

Our Francisco is living the dream…three days of non-stop sculpture out at Clackamas Community College in the Sculpture Build-Off.

This event is open to the public so pack a picnic and watch the creative process as over 20 sculptors create large-scale sculpture.

Note: Enter the Campus off Beavercreek and go to the first parking lot on your left. The artists will be found near the Welding Department.

Norma, Olivia and Michelle

Wednesday, June 11th

Three generations of lovely ladies all sharing a moment of laughter. How wonderful to be a part of something as special as this. And a big thank you to Olivia, who could turn just about anybodies frown upside down!

Kurt, Carla, Nikki and Hayley

Wednesday, June 11th

This beautiful family came in to update their family photos, and to capture their life at this wonderful stage. We think that unique images, such as this one, are a great way to do so. Don’t you?

Michelle and her whacky family

Tuesday, June 10th

This wonderful mom came in for a “nice family portrait” but soon enough the photo shoot turned into a fun-fest, as it often does here at Campbell Salgado. Dad, Collin, was the ringleader, but soon all joined in to make this one of the more hilarious photo sessions we have had in a long time!

Andaluz Waterbirth Center

Tuesday, June 10th

Now that’s what we call a photo session!!

All the midwives from Andaluz Waterbirth Center recently came in for a photo shoot and to show off all the gorgeous babies that they helped bring into this world. It was definitely a wild morning in the studio!

Ellie and Claire

Tuesday, June 3rd

Two little monkeys jumping on the bed …

One year old twins, Ellie and Claire, were so angelic staring out the window that we couldn’t resist snapping up this moment.

Andrew

Tuesday, June 3rd

There aren’t too many words that describe an adorable face like this. All we can say is little Andrew sure knew how to make us laugh!

Andy and Lucina

Tuesday, June 3rd

Andy and Lucina are expecting their first child in just a few weeks. Their amazing love for each other is so strong, that we know this precious baby is going to be dearly loved. We can’t wait to find out who the little one will look like, but with parents like these, this baby already has it made.

Marlo and Melanie

Tuesday, June 3rd

Baby Marlo is just 3 months old, and already she is smiling like a little girl. We love to catch such special moments like this one between Melanie and her beautiful daughter. Both were a joy to have in the studio.

Do Jump - Enthusiasmo

Thursday, May 29th

Our little performer, Tamaio, made his debut in the Do Jump show Entusiasmo! on May 17th. He’s playing a child in the town of Gaviotas an eco-village located in the Colombian department of Vichada. It was founded in 1971 by Paolo Lugari who assembled a group of engineers and scientists in an attempt to create a mode of sustainable living in one of the least hospitable political and geographical climates in South America.

The show combines physical theater, trapeze and amazing music and runs through this Saturday, May 31st. This is especially fun for kids over five years and their parents too!

Paolo Lugari, the man who created the community of Gaviotas and inspired Robin to create the show “Entusiasmo!”, is doing a question and answer this Fri, May 30 after the show!

Metro Parent - Celebrating Mom's

Wednesday, April 30th

This is the fourth year one of our portraits has graced the cover for the Metro Parent’s Mother’s Day issue. It’s a treat to showcase our imagery but we really love being able to show off some of the super mom’s we get to meet.

This year Joanna and Adi’s joyful portrait was chosen. Joanna is another mama-entrepreneur who balances nurturing her family and caring for her business, Ground Springs Healing. Not only do they specialize in the healing arts they also have an amazing foot spa Joanna developed called Pedistone. Hey Dads – another great Mother’s Day gift idea! I have yet to meet a mom who doesn’t love a little foot pampering.

Goodbye to Beth

Wednesday, March 26th

Our dear photo coordinator Beth Behler is moving on to an inspiring new stage of her life in April, out of the Campbell Salgado famil.

Beth, thanks for wiping noses, gravity defying leaps, playing peek-a-boo, and creating memorable experiences with so many folks. All the little ones surely enjoyed their “playdates” with you here at the studio. You will be missed.

Brand New Babes

Tuesday, March 11th

I’m often asked by soon-to-be parents, when should we bring in our baby for pictures?

What we have found from photographing hundreds of newborn babies is that there is a very sweet little window – the first two weeks – that begs for portraiture. Here is why.

A mellow baby makes for mellow parents. The temperament of a just born baby with a belly full of milk is most often sleepy. We always schedule enough time that if a feeding or two is necessary during the appointment parents will not feel rushed.

Clear skin is another reason; baby acne usually kicks in around three to four weeks. A few spots are easily retouched but a constellation can be challenging and expensive to remove.

Lastly, size. This itty bitty little baby is going to be growing so fast this first year. This is the one chance to capture a most delicate beginning. A tiny hand wrapped around a papas finger. Little feet tucked between an older siblings. The innocent gaze of a child entering the world can take your breath away.

Some of our most memorable sessions are with days old babies.

What is a Sneak Peek?

Campbell Salgado believes in developing a lasting relationship with its clients, and created Sneak Peeks to share a small part of our dialog with them.

Sneak Peeks are a continuous stream of commentary and insight into our photographic process, allowing curious clients to see images from their session before returning for a full review. We would appreciate your commentary, and welcome any feedback or insights of your own.
